Staff Selection Commission (SSC) takes Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam for the employment of officers in various government departments. The notification for SSC CGL 2018 is expected to be out shortly. There are four sections in SSC CGL question paper namely, English comprehension, logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude and General Awareness.  Out of the four sections, General Awareness section is considered to be scoring if prepared thoroughly.
It is considered as make or break section therefore prepare thoroughly to score well in this section. General Awareness section consists of 25 questions and each question carries 2 marks, total marks that one can score is 50 if attempted accurately. In order to score well in the section candidates should know the syllabus and pattern of the exam. On the basis of the topics to be covered proper preparation strategy should be made to prepare it effectively. Proper preparation of General Awareness will help you save your time i.e you will be able to solve this section in less than 10 minutes. Time saved in this section can be utilized to attempt complex calculations questions in Quantitative Aptitude.
Question paper usually is set from static General Knowledge than Current Affairs. Therefore one must focus on Static GK and be in constant touch with the latest news too.

SSC CGL 2018 General Awareness Section


General Awareness Section can be divided into three broad categories:
  1. static GK,
  2. general science, and
  3. miscellaneous. 
  4. Static GK includes topics related to History, geography, culture, economy, polity, environment etc. This is easy to learn as the information does not change over time. Thus questions related to these topics can be answered in no time if you know the facts.
    General Science includes topics from Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Environment, Computer, Disease and Pollution, Nutrition etc. The level of the questions asked from these topics is mostly of Class 10th standard. The preparation of these topics only needs revision because a graduate is aware of the basics already.
  5. Miscellaneous topics consists of current affairs, budget, awards and winners, world news, currencies, countries and capitals, abbreviations, nations and their leaders etc. 

Strategy for preparation:

Once you understand the pattern of SSC CGL Exam 2018, then the next important step should be to prepare the list of the topics of each category mentioned above. Now evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and plan your strategy to study the topics.  

Buy one good book from the market for General Awareness and follow the same for Static GK and General Science. Do not confuse yourself by consulting more than one book as the information is same in all the books. You need to concentrate on the basics and learn them by heart.

General Science section is easy to prepare as you have to revise what you studied in school and concepts are clear in your mind.  One can revive the same by revising those topics.

Daily revise the Static GK topics because the topics are more in number and most of the questions are based on Static GK in SSC CGL Exam.

To prepare for miscellaneous section one must read newspapers on regular basis. Refer any current year book of reputed publication to know about the latest awards and winners, country and leaders. The source of information should be reliable, it is better to follow news channels than to depend upon the readymade material for current affairs.
