Ideal plan to Prepare for SSC CGL Tier I – English Language


SSC CGL Exam is one of the prestigious exams conducted by SSC as it offers officer level job to graduates. It has four sections namely,
1.     General Intelligence & Reasoning  
2.     General Awareness     
3.     Quantitative Aptitude  
4.     English Language

Out of these Quantitative Aptitude and English Language are challenging sections of the exam. English Language section needs proficiency in the language which needs to be prepared effectively. Most of the students who apply generally ignore this section while doing exam preparation. As a result of this they lose marks and cannot score well. It is one of the scoring subjects if mastered efficiently.
To master English Language Section one should follow some important tips.
There are three important features that one needs to master to prepare for SSC CGL Exam         Tier 1 these are vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.  Work on them and you are sure to win the race.
Tips to follow while preparing for English Language section are:
1.     The pattern and questions in this exam are generally repeated. Therefore it is better to practice from the previous year question papers to have an idea about the questions.
2.     Study the exam pattern thoroughly and then start your exam preparation and practice further.
3.     Practice comprehension passages daily. The best way to attempt this question is to read the questions before you read the passage. It will help you locate the answer while reading the passage as your mind is set to find the answers of the questions you have read so far. It will save your time.
4.     Make your vocabulary strong.   Read lot of books, magazines and newspapers in English medium. Check the meaning of new words you come across. Also find the synonyms and antonyms and note them down in a separate note book. Revise and update the list on daily basis. It will improve your vocabulary and you are sure to attain language proficiency.
5.     Focus on grammar rules to improve your reading and understanding the text. It will help you solve many questions easily such as
-       Error Spotting
-       Phrase Replacement
-       Fill in the Blanks
Practice 50 questions of grammar each day to understand the rules and master the language.
6.     Join online SSC CGL test series and practice topic tests on all the sections of English Language. It will help you allocate your weak areas of English. Seek the help of the subject expert to improve your weak areas rather than doing it by hit and trial.
7.     Devote at least one hour to revise the previous topics and then resume the next topic. It will give you confidence and enhance your accuracy.
Follow the study plan religiously. Practice the topics thoroughly along with the pattern of the exam. One thing that you should not forget is a SUDDEN CHANGE IN THE PATTERN as you are sitting in the exam and can expect any major change.
