General Tips for preparing General Awareness Section of SSC CGL exams

In SSC CGL exam, the section of General Awareness (GA) is considered to be most scoring section. This main objective of section is to tests candidates General Awareness and knowledge of Current Affairs which are occurring in India and across the globe. The section demands good grasping and memorizing power and therefore there should be regularity and consistency in studying this section.  Before preparing for the examination preparation, the students should go through the latest syllabus and exam pattern. Thereafter, they should study and examine previous year papers to understand the significance of importance topics.
After analyzing previous year papers, we can conclude few important facts. The entire section can be divided into three parts- Static GK (10 to12 questions), General Science (8 to 10 questions), Current Affairs (3 to 5 questions) and Miscellaneous Topics (3 to 5 questions). 
Generally speaking, there are many books available in the market but prefer books which are designed to cater SSC CGL exam aspirants. It is because General Awareness section is most common section in almost every competitive exam, especially which are aimed at recruitment of jobs in Public sector organizations or departments.  The preferred books should be updated versions from reputed publication houses which carry authentic information. The students are advised to refer Lucent’s General knowledge Book, Manorama Yearbook, Competition Success Review and daily newspapers (The Hindu, The Times of India). For preparing Current Affairs, the daily newspapers are the best source of information and so everyday devote at least 15 to 20 minutes to it. Do note down every important information about politics, sports, economics, awards etc and make a list of it. It will give you sufficient knowledge and make you a competent aspirant. 
The Static GK is the most important topic which comprises chapters like History, Geography, Economy, and Polity. The questions based on latest Government schemes, latest awards, events, abbreviations etc have been frequently asked in previous year papers.
The topic of General Science is getting more significance in last few years. The questions based on Biology have been frequently asked followed by questions on Physics, Chemistry, Nutrition, Computer and Mobile Technology, Diseases and Pollution. The students can also refer to their 12th Class NCERT books for topics like environment, nutrition, diseases etc. Do keep yourself updated on latest development in the field of Science and Medicines like Noble awards, new inventions, latest diseases and its cure etc. The examiners always prefer to test candidate’s capacity to learn and grasp new knowledge and so be mentally alert in collecting information.    
The Miscellaneous Topics comprises of range of categories like Population Census, Important books and their writers, First sports achievement for India and world like first Olympic, first Asian Game, etc., Awards and their importance, Important Days, State Animals and Symbols, Name of the Scientist who got Noble prize for important discoveries, knowledge about origin of Computer and its functioning etc. These topics may sound too elaborate and so consult previous year papers to get the overview of the type of questions asked from this topic.
To master General Awareness Section, a candidate should have good memory skills to recollect all the information and knowledge attained in his preparation time. It requires studying in consistent manner through a well organized time-table where every important topic is comprehensibly covered. The importance of revision should not be undermined because practice will make you perfect and help you memorize a bulk of information in your mind. There will be situations where you have to use your common sense in answering question. In such cases, do use elimination method and try to eliminate irrelevant options but never use guess work. It can result in negative marking and can ruin your selection prospects.
The good preparation strategy and good memorizing skills will help you in mastering General Awareness section, so keep the good work up and give your best to crack SSC CGL 2019 exam.
